The Magic of Dreaming

“Never give up on what you really want to do.
The person with big dreams is more powerful than the one with all the facts.”

– Albert Einstein

Having a dream and following it may seem impractical to you at first.

However, your dreams come from an innocent, essential, and authentic part of you. They orient you toward your best life and even to some mysterious yet fortuitous outcomes.

There are many benefits of following your dreams, including:

Dreams give you a sense of purpose and fulfillment

Dreams and purpose are intrinsically connected. A dream not only gives your life meaning but also provides a compelling reason to get out of bed each day. It fuels your passion, ignites your drive, and offers a sense of fulfillment.

The pursuit of your dreams is a journey of personal growth and the realization of your innate potential. Even if you don't achieve your dream, the mere act of pursuing it can be profoundly meaningful. The process itself is an adventure filled with joy, discovery, and satisfaction. The path to the dream is as valuable as reaching the destination because of the growth, accomplishment, and meaning you acquire along the way.

There’s no actual destination with your big dream, but rather milestones along the way.

Dreams stay with you

In my experience, your big dreams stay with you. You may experience periods in your life that seem to take you far away from your dream, but your dream never leaves you.

You may even forget your dream temporarily. When you’re ready and open to it, your dream will come back to you.

Dreams give you orientation and direction

No matter how unrealistic it may seem, pursuing your dream provides you with an essential sense of direction. A dream is a spiritual compass that points you toward worthwhile, soulful growth and attainment. Having direction or orientation is about having clarity about what you’re pursuing and where you’re going. This concept is related to navigating your life.

Your dream defines a destination, and then you determine where you are in proximity to the dream. When you tap into your dream to help you establish your course heading, you'll get more clarity on the next steps and concrete goals that will take you in the direction of your dream.

Dreams help you develop resilience

Your big dream helps you navigate the complexities of life and inspires you to push through challenges and limitations. It fuels your creativity and determination, making you resilient in the face of adversity.

Even when you face setbacks and self-doubt, reconnecting with your dream offers the motivation needed to overcome obstacles.

Dreams lead you to the solutions for transforming your pain into abundance

The connection may not be obvious at first, but your emotional and existential pains are intertwined with your big dream. The pain that motivates you to change is the other side of the coin from the dream.

As I have followed the mystery of my big dream to accomplish goals, objectives, and milestones, I have simultaneously been on a journey of healing and transmuting emotional pain to make room for greater abundance.

What is the Magic of Dreaming Big?

There are several types of dreams. The first is the one you experience when you're sleeping, a realm of subconscious imagery, narrative, and communication with your psyche. The second type, daydreams, fill your waking hours with visions, musings, and reverie. The third, the focus of this discussion, is the dream of your life, the grand vision of what you want to create, who you aspire to be, and how you want to live your life.

It's important to distinguish dreams from goals. Dreams are nebulous, expansive, and often defy the boundaries of practicality. Goals, on the other hand, are SMART — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound. Big dreams are often indefinite and intangible, whereas goals are concrete and precise. Big dreams could take years or a lifetime to bring to fruition. A goal is an objective you can accomplish in the short- to mid-term. Dreams may not appear realistic or achievable at first, but they’re the foundation of innovation and transformation. They challenge you to think beyond your sense of the ordinary and explore your capacity for the extraordinary.

How do you dream big?

Figuring out what you want may be the most challenging task of this practice. Start where you are now. Your yearning for a dream may be quashed by external factors or childhood experiences, but as an adult, it's crucial for you to rediscover the magic of dreaming. Any dream that excites or inspires you is worth pursuing. You want your dreams to be juicy, exhilarating, and get your blood pumping.

The question isn’t if you’re meant to follow it. The question is - how long will you wait before saying yes?
